Sheriff’s Office investigating thefts from vehicles in church parking lot

 

The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an incident involving the theft of items from several motor vehicles. The incident happened Thursday in a church parking lot in Early Branch and minor damage was done to the vehicles.

Officers responded to a call of thefts from several vehicles in the parking lot of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Early Branch Thursday night. The thefts reportedly occurred between 6p.m. and 9p.m. during a church meeting. Some of the items stolen from three of the vehicles in the parking lot included a purse containing a small amount of cash, jewelry and several weapons.

The sheriff’s office asks that anyone who has any information concerning this incident to contact the office at (803)914-2200. Any churches interested in taking safety classes can also contact the office for further information.

“We ask that all churches remain alert when they hold meetings and report anything that looks out of the ordinary while they are in session or holding meetings during the week,” Hampton County Sherif T.C. Smalls said. “Churches around the county also need to consider enrolling in safety classes offered by the sheriff’s office in an effort to keep everyone safe.”
